The City of Adel has completed Envision Adel 2040, an update to the City’s 2009 Comprehensive Plan.
The new plan addresses land use, housing, commercial and industrial development, sustainability and the environment, transportation and infrastructure, parks and recreation, and community facilities and services.
The process began in late 2018 and concluded in July 2020. Several public meetings and/or opportunities for feedback occurred in 2019 (see below).
The City engaged Confluence to lead this effort. Confluence partnered with McClure, the City’s engineering firm.

East Annex Sanitary Sewer
In 2019, the City completed its $7 million East Annex Sanitary Utility Improvements Project. This project extended the City’s sanitary sewer service east of the Raccoon River to open approximately 1,700 acres for development.

Downtown Planning Study by ISU
In the fall of 2019, a graduate studio at Iowa State University completed a study of Adel’s Historic Downtown.
A Community Mapping Event was held on September 5. Three scenarios were presented on October 29, and the final plan was presented on December 17.
The Adel City Council formally accepted the plan at its Tuesday, March 10, 2020 meeting.

April 16, 2019 “Box City” Event

February 26, 2019 Public Workshop
On February 26, the City and Confluence held a Public Workshop at the Adel Public Library to present an overview of the update process and to gather feedback. Approximately 40 people braved the cold to attend.
