The City of Adel is excited to kick-off Envision Adel 2040, an update to the City’s 2009 Comprehensive Plan.
The new plan will address land use, housing, commercial and industrial development, sustainability and the environment, transportation and infrastructure, parks and recreation, and community facilities and services.
The process began in late 2018 and is expected to conclude by the end of 2019. Several public meetings and/or opportunities for feedback will be available in 2019.
Draft Presentation – Tuesday, November 12
A draft of Envision Adel 2040 will be presented to the Adel City Council on Tuesday, November 12 at 4:30 p.m. in the Adel Public Library. The City’s Planning & Zoning Commission will also be in attendance at this public meeting.
Downtown Planning Study by ISU
Iowa State University is conducting a study of Adel’s Historic Downtown in the fall of 2019.
A Community Mapping Event was held on September 5. The ISU graduate studio presented three downtown scenarios on October 29:
A final presentation with the recommended plans for downtown will be made on Tuesday, December 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Adel Public Library.

April 16, 2019 “Box City” Event

February 26, 2019 Public Workshop
On February 26, the City and Confluence held a Public Workshop at the Adel Public Library to present an overview of the update process and to gather feedback. Approximately 40 people braved the cold to attend.
