When Is Garbage Day?

Garbage pickup is Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, depending on where the residence is located. Please see the map below to determine when your garbage collection will be or click here to view the collection map as a PDF. If you cannot view the map, please call Adel City Hall at (515) 993-4525 or email elight@adeliowa.org.  All bins must be out to the curb by 7:00 a.m.

Recycling

Recycling is collected the same day as your garbage every other week through a single stream recycling program. Recycle bins must be out at the curb by 7:00 a.m. Please click on the link below for the 2024 Recycling Calendar, which includes information about what items you can and cannot recycle:

Yard Waste

Yard waste collection is on Tuesdays.

The City of Adel provides for the collection of yard waste for its citizens. Yard waste is defined as organic material and includes the following items: grass clippings, leaves, trees, tree limbs, bark, branches, and flowers.

Yard waste is collected April through November and must be placed on the curb each Tuesday by 7:00 a.m. during this period.

Yard waste must be placed in brown paper bags. You may purchase bags for this purpose from places like Baldon Hardware or Fareway. For small amounts of yard waste, you may simply use a brown paper grocery bag, cardboard box, or a trash can clearly marked “Yard Waste.”

Securely bundled brush (no longer than 4 feet and less than 50 pounds) may be placed on the curb for collection. These bundles must be secured with biodegradable material such as twine or cotton string.

During set periods after the New Year, Christmas trees may also be placed on the curb. The trees must be stripped of all decorations and must not be placed in plastic bags.

Appliance Tag (Stickers)

The following items require the purchase of an appliance tag (sticker) before you are permitted to dispose of them: Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, furnaces, heaters, dishwashers, microwaves, water heaters, humidifiers, computer monitors, and TVs.
