Parks & Recreation Department

The City’s Parks & Recreation Department operates and manages the City’s parks and recreation programs with the following staff:

PICKLEBALL
Free drop-in pickleball play May through August. Great activity for all ages including
senior citizens!  Need equipment? Call us!
LOCATION: Kinnick-Feller Park Courts
WHEN: Monday Mornings 9-11am and Wednesday Evenings 6-8pm.

COED SAND VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE
Gather your friends and join the league. Teams
are guaranteed a 7-game season and an end-of season league tournament.
FEE: $165 per team
LOCATION: Evans Park
WHEN: Tuesday Evenings, June 4 – July 16 +
tournament
DEADLINE: May 17

COED SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE
Grab your bat, glove, and friends. Teams are guaranteed
8 games. Men will hit a 14” ball, and Women will hit a
12” ball. Adel Park/Rec. will provide game balls for league
games.
FEE: $225 per team
LOCATION: Kinnick-Feller Park
WHEN: Thursday Evenings, June 6- July 25
DEADLINE: May 17

MENS & WOMENS TENNIS LEAGUES
Hosted by the Adel Tennis Club, this program provides
tennis opportunities for players of all skill levels. Matches
are played in hour increments beginning at 6pm. Match
schedules will be made and provided to players.
FEE: $30/player
LOCATION: Kinnick-Feller Park Courts
WHEN: Men’s League – Thursday Evenings,
June 6 – August 8.
Women’s League – Monday/Tuesday Evenings,
June 3 – August 6
DEADLINE: May 17

BEAN BAG LEAGUE
The classic yard game brought to the parks and recreation
line-up. Find a partner and get in a couple practice throws. Seven weeks of
league play followed by end-of-season tournament.
FEE: $50 per team
LOCATION: Kinnick-Feller Park
WHEN: Thursdays Evenings, August 15 – September 26 + tournament
DEADLINE: July 26

Looking for a Team? Interested in playing but don’t have a team? Email nschenck@adeliowa.org with name, number, email, and sport interested in playing. Interested players will be connected with one another in an attempt to form a team.

Deadlines: All entry fees and rosters must be turned into Adel Parks & Recreation by the deadline of each individual sport to guarantee your team placement in the league. Refer to the activity guide for registration deadlines.

KIDDIE KICKERS
Introductory soccer program for boys and girls ages 3 and 4 years
old that are not eligible to begin ADM soccer club yet, birth years
of 2020-2021. There will be a skills portion and scrimmage portion
each evening. Parent/adult participation is required.
FEE: $40 (Includes shin guards)
LOCATION: Kinnick-Feller Park
WHEN: Mondays, April 8 -May 13 5:30-6:00pm or 6:15-6:45pm

LITTLE SLUGGERS
Introductory baseball and softball program for boys and girls
ages 3 and 4. The purpose is to teach the basics of hitting the
ball, run the bases, become familiar with being on the field,
and most of all, to have FUN. Players should bring a glove and
water bottle. All other equipment is provided. Parent/adult
participation is required.
FEE: $40 (Includes T-Shirt)
LOCATION: Kinnick-Feller Park
WHEN: Mondays/Wednesdays 6-6:45pm;
Session 1: June 10-26
Session 2: July 8-24
DEADLINES: Session 1: May 17; Session 2: June 14

TENNIS CLINICS
This program is for ages 5-17 and designed to teach the fundamentals of tennis.
Lessons will build on one another, giving participants a complete set of skills and
helping them refine their abilities. All equipment is provided. Participants will be
divided into class times based on age and ability.
FEE: $60
LOCATION: Kinnick-Feller Park tennis courts
WHEN: Tuesdays & Thursdays: 1-hr timeslots between 8 am – Noon:
Session 1: June 11 – 27: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced
Session 2: July 16 – August 1: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced
DEADLINES: Session 1: May 31; Session 2: July 5
Sessions limited to 40 participants

ADEL POWER WHEELS NATIONALS
The third annual Adel Power Wheels Nationals is scheduled for Saturday, June 22nd. This is a completely free event for youth ages 2 – 7 years old. Bring your own Power Wheels! However, if you don’t have one, we will have Power Wheels on hand for your child to use.  This event is presented to the Adel and surrounding communities by Alley Auto Sales, BigDeal Car Care and the Adel Parks and Recreation Department. We will again give away 25 Power Wheels on the day of the race. Every child registered also receives a free T-shirt.

CLASSES: Limited Pro (2 – 4 year olds), Pro Stock (5 – 7 year olds), Outlaw (5 – 7 year olds) DEADLINE: June 7

DALLAS COUNTY FAIR PARKS AND RECREATION DAY
Join us on Thursday, July 11 at the Dallas County Fair for Parks and Recreation Day. Staff from Adel, Perry and Waukee Parks and Recreation Departments will be at the entertainment stage from 3 to 4 pm to conduct bubble gum blowing and pie eating contests. Don’t miss out on the fun and tons of laughs!!

FALL YOUTH SOCCER
Fall soccer is offered by the ADM Soccer Club. Games are played on weekends at
the Island Park Soccer Complex. For more information visit admsoccer.net.

ADM YOUTH FOOTBALL
This unified progression program eases kids into the game of football by
implementing age-appropriate skills each year in hopes to teach kids a love for the
game while teaching safe play techniques. Register at admfootball.com.
K-2 – Local Flag Football (8 on 8)
3rd Grade – Traveling Flag Football with Soft Shell Helmets (8 on 8)
4th Grade – Full Padded Flag Football (8 on 8)
5th Grade – Rookie Tackle Football (8 on 8)
6th Grade – Tackle Football (11 on 11)

Family/Community

DOG EASTER EGG HUNT
Join us for our first Dog Easter Egg Hunt!!
The rules of the egg hunt are easy. Keep
your dog on leash, then walk him to the first
egg, talk to him, and point at it the egg to
attract his attention. When he touches the
egg with his nose or paw, you can pick it up
and give him the treat.

45TH ANNUAL SWEET CORN FESTIVAL
Activities include corn shucking, 5k,
parade, all day entertainment, FREE
sweet corn, food and craft vendors, street
party and more!

IOWA PARK & REC DAY@ STATE FAIR
Celebrate Parks and Recreation at
the Iowa State Fair on August 15th by
participating in friendly competitions
including Bubble Gum Blowing, Big Wheel
Races, Scavenger Hunt and more! There
is fun for all ages!
