Parks & Recreation Department

The City’s Parks & Recreation Department operates and manages the City’s parks and recreation programs with the following staff:

Adult Activities

Yard Games

Games are played on Thursday evenings beginning around 6:00p at Kinnick-Feller Park throughout April and May. Fees are $30 per team.

Coed Sand Volleyball 

Games are played on Tuesday evenings beginning around 6:00p at Evans park throughout June and July. Fees are $165 per team.

Coed Slow-pitch Softball

Games are played on Thursday evenings beginning around 6:00p at Kinnick-Feller Park  throughout June and July. Men will hit a 14” ball, and women will hit a 12” ball. Fees are $190 per team.


Hosted by the Adel Tennis Club. Women’s league is played on Monday/Tuesday. Men’s league is played on Thursday evenings. Games are held throughout the summer at Kinnick-Feller Park. Fees are $25/person.


Free drop-in pickleball play May through August on Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Great activity for all ages including senior citizens! Need equipment? Call us!

Aqua Zumba

Classes are held on Tuesday mornings from 6:00a-6:30a at the Adel Family Aquatic Center. Fees are $15-20 depending on session or $7/single class drop in.

Kickball Tournament

One fun-filled night of kickball. Get the coworkers, teammates, friend group, or neighborhood together and enjoy the summer evening while you still can. Ages 14+. Held in August.

Bean Bags

Games are played on Thursday evenings beginning around 6:00p at Kinnick-Feller Park tennis courts under the lights. Season runs in the fall between August and October. Fees are $30 per team.

Coed Indoor Volleyball

Games are played on Sunday evenings beginning around 5:00p at the ADM High School south gym throughout January and February. Childcare is available for $1/child/evening. Fees are $180 per team.

Over 30 Men’s Basketball

Games are played on Sunday evenings at the DAC gym from November to February. Register as an individual and then be divided into teams. Fees are $20 per person.

Active Elders

This program is targeted towards the 60+ population and includes a variety of low impact activities from yard game and modified sports to board games and cards. Held on Mondays at the District Administration Center gym from 9-10a throughout November and December.

Open Gym

Recreational open gym time is offered Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9:00a-11:00a at the District Administration Center from October-April. The gym is closed during school breaks including Thanksgiving, winter, and spring break. Play basketball, shuffleboard, pickleball, walk, run, socialize, etc. The DAC gym is located on 12th street in Adel. There is no charge.

Looking for a Team? Interested in playing but don’t have a team? Email with name, number, email, and sport interested in playing. Interested players will be connected with one another in an attempt to form a team.

Deadlines: All entry fees and rosters must be turned into Adel Parks & Recreation by the deadline of each individual sport to guarantee your team placement in the league. Refer to the activity guide for registration deadlines.

Kiddy Keys

A fun, innovative, and energetic program that teaches music and piano skills to preschool children ages 2.5-5. Learn more at Held in October. Fees are $46/family.

Softball & Baseball

Games are played in Adel and the surrounding communities. Season runs from April-June. Divisions are as follows: T-ball (5&6), Rookie (7&8), Minor (9&10), Major (11&12). Fees are $70 for T-Ball and $80 for Rookie, Minor, and Major.

Kiddie Kickers

An introductory soccer league for 3 and 4 year old’s not eligible to begin ADM soccer club yet. Adult/parent participation required. Held on Monday evenings from 6:00-6:45p at Kinnick-Feller Park football field from mid-April to mid-May

Little Sluggers

The league is designed to introduce children to baseball and softball while having FUN! Program is held on Monday/Wednesday evenings from 6:00-6:45p at Kinnick-Feller Park. There are two sessions, one in June and one in July. Offered for boys and girls ages 3 and 4. Adult/parent participation is expected. Players should bring a glove, all other equipment is provided. Fees are $35/person.

Storytime in the Park

A collaborative effort between the library and parks & rec. We bring to you a weekly morning of fun! Join us for story time, crafts, and activities in a park on Wednesday’s throughout the summer.


Lessons are on Tuesday/Thursday mornings for 3 weeks at Kinnick-Feller Park. There are two sessions, one in June and one in July.  There are three divisions suitable for ages 5-17. All equipment is provided. Fees are $45-$60 depending on division.

Nerf Wars Tournament

Teamwork, speed, and strategy will be needed to defeat your opponent in the Nerf Wars Arena. Teams of 4. Participants must bring their own nerf gun and eye safety. Ages 8-12. Held in September.


1st-2nd Grade: Games are played on Saturdays in Adel throughout November and December. Practices start mid-October and are held during the week in the evenings. Fees are $55/person.

3rd-6th Grade: Separate boys and girls leagues. Games are played on Saturdays in Adel and the surrounding communities throughout January and February. Practices start mid-December and are held during the week in the evening. Fees are $65/person.

Every Kid Plays: The Adel Kiwanis Club has created a program to assist ADM families that are having financial difficulties or otherwise experiencing tough times by helping cover some or all of the participation fees up to $200. Visit for more information. Download an application

Adel Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt

Enjoy activities like the Easter Bunny, face painting, a fire truck, real bunnies, prizes and more! Please bring non-perishable food items for the Adel Food Pantry. *Cancelled* in 2021. Alternative Easter Bunny photo opportunity event!

Egg My Yard

We will hide eggs in your yard the week before Easter during the day for your kids to find when they get home from school.  Must reside within City of Adel limits.

Earth Week

Join us in protecting our environment and focusing on conservation. Adopt a park or trail section to clean-up.

Rock’n Fridays

Hosted by the Adel Chamber of Commerce at the Community Stage & Pavilion on Friday’s throughout the summer.

Movies in the Park

Gather your lawn chairs and blankets and join us for a free family-friendly movie at sunset in a local park. Popcorn will be provided. Please check spring/summer activity guide for dates.

Bark in the Park

A dog-some evening in June filled with of peanut butter licking, musical mats, and paw print paintings. Mutt as well come and check it out. It’s a good time to say the leashed.

Disc Golf Day

Disc golf is for the whole family! Come learn what it is all about and give it a toss in June. Discs will be provided. Friendly age group competitions like longest drive, worst slice, and furthest putt. Informal competition following for interested parties. All ages and abilities welcomed.

Garden Tour

Hosted by the Adel Chamber of Commerce in June. Take a visit to 5 different gardens and see how the green thumbs work their magic.

Sweet Corn Festival

An annual festival held in August that includes corn shucking and eating, 5k, parade, entertainment, vendors, and more!

Iowa Park & Rec Day at State Fair

Celebrate Parks and Recreation at the Iowa State Fair by participating in friendly competitions including bubble gum blowing, big wheel races, scavenger hunt, and more!

Grocery Cart Races

Race head to head versus other competitors for a chance to be crowned the grocery cart champion! Fundraiser for the Adel Food Pantry held in the fall. Registration fee is $25 worth of grocery/personal care items.

Walk Adel

Join us for 30 minutes of walking on October 7th for Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative Annual Walk.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Create a Jack-O-Lantern masterpiece and submit a photo by October 31 via email ( to be entered in the contest.

Thanksgiving Free-Throw Turkey Toss

A family fun holiday event. Parent and child teams compete in a free-throw contest for a chance to win a gift certificate for a free turkey. Held the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Notes From the North Pole

Get in the holiday spirit by receiving a personalized letter from Santa.

Ice Rink

A temporary outdoor ice rink is set up each winter season. Specific dates of use are subject to weather. The rink is free to use and is located by the Community Stage and Pavilion.

Snowman Contest

Let us see your best snowman creation. Submit a photo via email ( to be entered in the contest.
