The Water Watch has been rescinded. Usage has remained in the mid-500,000 gallons per day.
As a reminder, the City may be forced to reimplement the Water Watch based on weather conditions and water usage.
9/23/20 Update
Usage has climbed from 400,000 gallons per day last week to 600,000 gallons per day since Sunday. Adel is still in a Severe Drought, and no precipitation is forecast over the coming week.
To avoid the need for another Water Warning, please take these reasonable steps to limit your watering:
- Even-numbered houses should water on even-numbered days only, and odd-numbered houses on odd-numbered days only.
- Using the house number irrigation schedule, water your lawn between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. only.

The City has rescinded the Water Warning, though the Water Watch remains in place.
8/21/20 Update
The City has moved to a Water Warning.
8/3/20 Update
The City is still in a Water Watch, as usage has averaged over 650,000 gallons per day since July 28.
Please continue to limit your watering to every other day based on the criteria below.
7/13/20 Update
As an update, water usage continues to be above 700,000 gallons per day, with a few days approaching 750,000 gallons.
Please review the information below, as we strongly encourage you to take reasonable steps to limit your watering.
As a reminder, the City may be forced to enter the non-voluntary Water Warning stage if conditions and usage do not improve soon.
7/7/20 Update
During the recent and forecasted hot and dry weather, the City of Adel has experienced increasingly high water demands.
As a result, the City is implementing a Water Watch effective July 7, 2020, which is the first stage in the City’s Water Conservation Plan approved in 2017.
We strongly encourage you to review the Water Watch Brochure and take reasonable steps to limit your watering.
- Water your lawn between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., as evaporation takes away the majority of watering during the hotter daytime hours.
- Even-numbered houses should water on even-numbered days only, and odd-numbered houses on odd-numbered days only.
If this voluntary stage is unsuccessful, and if the weather continues to worsen, the City may be forced to move quickly into the Water Warning stage.
